In November 2017, Colam Entreprendre acquired stakes in Akuo Energy, providing the support of a first-class new partner to give Akuo Energy the means to achieve its ambitious goals. Colam Entreprendre is a private family-owned company and the founding shareholder of Sonepar, the world’s number one B2B distributor of electrical products, solutions and related services. 3E was member of the Due Diligence team, together with Vulcain (M&A advisory), K&L Gates and Norton Rose (legal and corporate advisory), Eight Advisory (Financial advisory), and was in charge of the technical Due Diligence and market analysis.
The assignment included the review of the operational portfolio of 980 MW in 10 countries (wind, PV, hydro and biomass), as well as the evaluation of the several GW pipeline of projects in construction and in development. It also included the analysis of the different markets targeted by Akuo Energy. 3E used its first-class expertise in wind, PV and biomass, combined with its market integration approach and global geographical experience in 40 countries to support the transaction. The required expertise ranged from energy yield and technology assessment, contract review and asset technical inspection, to the analysis of support mechanism for Renewables and business opportunities in Europe, Africa, South East Asia, the US and Latin America.
Regis Decoret, Country Manager France & North Africa, and also Project Manager for the technical Due Diligence: “There are not many deals like this around, simply because Akuo Energy is one of the few Renewables Energy leaders driven by technological innovation and social responsibility active in such a number of countries and capable of working with so many technologies. This Due Diligence involved a large part of the 3E team for 2 months, and was conducted at a very high pace for our Client. Weeks were filled with management meetings with the Akuo Business Unit Managers, desktop work and site visits, together with progress meetings with Colam Entreprendre and the other advisors. We are delighted to have contributed to this one-of a-kind-deal.”
Marie-Christine Coisne-Roquette, Chairwoman and CEO of Colam Entreprendre, adds: “Beyond its involvement in and commitment to renewable energy, what excites us about Akuo Energy is the passion, agility and acumen of its approach and the creativity of its initiatives combined with a solid economic model.”
3E conducted more than 10GW of technical advisory work worldwide in wind and PV worldwide in 2017, with 6 GW of M&A Due Diligence.
