The purpose of the three-year Arrowhead Tools project is to create technology tools for the next generation of solutions in digitization and automation for the European industry. These tools will bridge the gap that currently prevents a total integration of IT and operational technology, to build large systems using the Internet of Things. The new technology will be made available through an open source platform, the Arrowhead Framework.
“The Arrowhead Tools project is expected to reduce the costs of developing and introducing flexible and secure digitization and automation solutions by 25-60 per cent. This will make Sweden and Europe more competitive and create new jobs and business opportunities, but also reduce energy consumption and environmental footprints,” says Jerker Delsing, professor of Industrial Electronics at Luleå University of Technology and coordinator for the Arrowhead Tools.
“The Arrowhead Tools are a joint investment between the industry, the EU Commission and 18 countries,” informs Jerker Delsing adding: “With the Arrowhead Tools, it is clear that Europe wants to maintain the lead in the world when it comes to automation and digitization”.
As a consortium partner, 3E contributed to the requirements and the design of the Arrowhead Framework, based on its experience in renewable energy system, modelling, digitalization and data services.
“In order to reach the expected added value from the digitalisation of the solar industry, IoT is key,” says Werner Coppye, 3E’s CTO. He adds: “3E’s smart services need to communicate in a secure way to thousands of distributed assets while interacting at the same time with other 3th party software solutions. The Arrowhead Tools guarantee 3E’s technology to be future oriented, leading to the lowest CAPEX and OPEX for smart bidirectional secure communication.”
