Work

3E was contracted to perform thermal and lighting analyses, optimisation of building energy needs and assistance to realisation with respect to energy management, with the goal of attaining very high energy performance for this new 11 700 m² office building in Montigny (France). The primary energy needs of the building have been reduced to reach close to zero and are being compensated by the production of renewable energy. The selected project includes a solar cooling system with wood boilers and a photovoltaic solar installation. On average, the building now produces more energy than it consumes. The first step to reach this goal was for 3E to conduct a simulation of the building’s energy capacity (cooling and heating needs and production, comfort level in the specific climatic environment). The analysis enabled 3E and the project developers to compare different optimisation solutions on the energy, financial and environmental levels. The optimised concept for energy performance was based on a comparison of all applicable energy saving solutions on the level of the building shell (performing insulation, inertia, double skin facade) and on the energy systems level (HVAC). At design stage, 3E also performed a study on natural lighting in order to assess visual comfort, and a technical feasibility study for the integration of photovoltaic systems to produce green electricity. Throughout the development of the project, 3E assisted the property developer at different construction phases, from preliminary and detailed engineering to tendering of technical installations, execution of works and commissioning.

  • Solar cooling with 220 m² rooftop solar installation with a 75 kW absorption cooling group
