Client: Kanaalkom Development NV – Matexi
On behalf of Matexi, 3E analysed the wind comfort for pedestrians and future residents of the project area of ‘Quartier Bleu’ in Hasselt. Additionally, an analysis was made of the number of hours of sunlight exposure at several sites located at outside gastro/pub terraces along the water’s edge.
To analyse wind comfort for users, 3E used advanced simulation software based on CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). This approach allows us to gain an insight on the movements of fluids, such as wind, in an urban context by means of numeric comparisons. Additionally to the pedestrian areas, an analysis was also made at the bridge over the canal and in front of the outside terraces of the planned residential developments. Based on these analyses, different design adjustments were proposed to improve resident and pedestrian comfort.
Using specialised software, a detailed analysis was made of the sunlight exposure at several sites located at outside gastro/pub terraces along the water’s edge. This allows the project developers to determine the optimal location of the gastro/pub terraces for Quartier Bleu, whilst also taking other criteria into account.
