Providing solar and wind data for the Pacific Island States

3E has been awarded The Pacific Power Association’s contract for solar and wind irradiation measurements, in partnership with GEOSUN Africa.

On 11 and 12 June, a kick-off meeting was organized in Nadi, Fiji. Representatives from the different utilities of the Pacific Island States participated in a two-day training session following the inception meeting.

The objective of the project is to provide high quality solar and wind data, based on a two-year measurement campaign.

During the first year, five 3E lidar devices will be deployed on different island states such as Samoa, Tuvalua, the Marshall Islands and the Solomon Islands. The Lidars will afterwards be relocated to other island states.

The results will be used for the validation of the Global Wind Atlas and for project development.
